Republicans reacted happily to Barack Obama’s Compromise last week on contraception — the big political issue of the day, this day, this 2012 day — in which religious employers were allowed to opt out of covering contraception in health plans and the insurer would pay for it instead. Not “reacted happily” in this sense that they were satisfied with this at all, mind you, but more that they could then push even further in their quest to end hot sex. Are we really going to see congressional votes in the near future on bills allowing all employers to opt out of covering contraception in their health plans?

TPM reports on Turtle & Co.’s latest bold plan for creating jobs and repairing the beleaguered economy:

Easy win for the Democrats, just point out EXACTLY what the catholics and republicans want, give a few examples, like Ireland before 1980, when abortion, contraception AND divorce were all ILLEGAL, then see how even the bible thumpin' south likes that (the south has the HIGHEST divorce rates in the US, even worse than Hollywood's).

Teapublicons need to be careful on their push back concerning access to contraceptives. Some of their women may agree with their stance but many of them do not.

It would be really great if a high profile teapublicon woman made an issue about employer insurance companies paying for viagra and cialis while not paying for contraceptives.

Ummm, none of my insurance policies covers ED medications. Not sure if that will get traction.

It's freaking incredible. You have a thoroughly disconnected party ranting about narrow social issues while the country is mired in debt along with a lunatic religious organization that covers for pedophilic rapists hysterical that it might have to offer birth control just like it does in Europe and 27 US states.

The republicans are Regressives. They and the Teabaggers were not joking when they said "we want our country back". They just didn't complete the sentence; "back... to the future" is what they left out! They have finally learned Michael Jackson's infamous 'MOON WALK'.

And as usual, a little late catching on. Poor saps...
What next for them, banning ELECTRICITY and REFRIGERATION!!!

Government small enough to fit in your uterus.

That is the GOP idea and no thank you!

Today the uterus, tomorrow the penis! All hail the sperm-counting police.

They don't spend any time on jobs or the economy, because all they have is low taxes for the rich; deregulation; removing institutions such as social security; and mostly shoving their theology down the American People's throat.

Seriously, even if you are a Republican, would you find their behavior acceptable?

If Repubs are going to be talking about contraception for the rest of 2012 without even touching about jobs, the economy, etc., then it's clear they don't care about the people. I will not ever for these loosers.

Six countries in Europe had their credit ratings down graded including Italy, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Malta, and Slovakia. Due to the interconnectedness of global finance, that down grade could have negative impact on the US economy. If it does, teapublicons will gladly resume their negative campaign talking points about the economy. They won't ditch the contrived battle of religious liberties wrapped around contraceptives but they will be very happy to blast doom-and-gloom about the economy.

I love this! Obama has already started his campaign. This is how he is going to be re-elected, he baits them in then exposes them to the public.

He did it when he took the church out of the equation, and they are walking right in to the next trap.

By the time this is done the Republicans will be bleeding voters from different aspects of the right.

I don't think he's done, I have the feeling he's got a plan and when each subject dies down he'll bring another trap along for the right. The right is going to do Obama's campaigning for him.

The GOP and tea party are against women, teachers, govt workers, unions, gays and the middle class which has been targets of their warped politics. Now they are out to get anyone who uses contraceptives. What the hell is next. USA today report that a Bishop said it wasn't about whether religious organizations had to pay for contraceptives it was about putting in place a law that refrains from anybody using contraceptives. This country is really trying to go back to the 18th century and people better start waking up before it is to late.

What a circus. Republicans condemn condoms! Republicans praise rape as a gift from God. Republicans endorse trans-vaginal probes. Republicans hate women (and men who want to plan their families). What’s next? Republicans mandate missionary-position only? Hey, Newt was right. ‘Cause Newt and all his Republican friends SHOULD set up a moon colony.... AND GO THERE! Then, they could tell each other what to do and how to live and who to love.... while leaving the REST of us alone, here on Earth. Newt, I always KNEW that you were a problem-solver. Unfortunately, you and your Republican friends ARE the problem...
